Public Transport Information and Promotion
The main objective of this measure is to create optimised and user-friendly information and promotion that will encourage people to use public transport.

The main objective of this measure is to create optimised and user-friendly information and promotion that will encourage people to use public transport.

The Measure
The main aspects of promotion will be to:
  • Produce an overall Marketing & Publicity Strategy
  • Develop a linked marketing and promotional plan for each work package
  • Increase the number of roadside information displays
  • All suitable stops will have a full colour, simplified timetable displaying information
  • Utilise several media for advertising
  • Create a project network of distribution outlets for information

For information, the following actions will be undertaken:
  • Real-time information at all stations and interchange points. Real-time information available via users’ own mobile phones using SMS
  • Provide new bus shelters with timetable & network map information & many with real-time
  • Create a network map showing both cycling and walking networks
  • Produce individual route information and mini pocket guides
  • Produce effective interchange point information
  • Route branding and colour coding to be carried out in conjunction with operators
  • All bus stops referenced using a unique identifier
  • Establishment of a City Centre Mobility Shop
  • And for training:
Driver training - customer care seminars
Ongoing promotions to encourage use

Personalised travel planning information has been produced in May and October 2007.
The development of an interactive map has been put on hold due to the level of changes to services in the area as a result of bus competition.
Route branding - July 2007. This work has mostly been completed, however with bus competition it is a rolling programme of further changes.
