Increasing the sustainability of business related passenger travel. This includes travel to work, travel for work, and customer travel to site. Sustainability is increased through reduction of pollution, reduction in resources used, and reduction of other external impacts

Increasing the sustainability of business related passenger travel. This includes travel to work, travel for work, and customer travel to site. Sustainability is increased through a reduction of pollution, reduction in resources used, and reduction of other external impacts. This can be achieved by reducing the distance travelled by motorised private transport such as car, van etc.

The Measure
A network for the distribution of information about walking, cycling and public transport to businesses will be established and maintained.

Car sharing software will be made available to businesses.

Advice about teleconferencing and home working will be made available to businesses.

The dedicated BTP officer will provide business travel plan advice to at least 100 businesses in the project area.

Grants will be provided to selected businesses to enable the implementation of on-site BTP initiatives (improved travel information for staff, priority parking for car sharers, walking and cycling facilities, etc.).

Cycle parking facilities will be installed or extended for at least 100 business sites within the project area.

Travel demand and supply will be coordinated between businesses and public transport operators.

Implementation Status
The Business Travel Plan officer is developing plans with businesses.

Cycle parking and racking is being installed at businesses in the area.

The car sharing initiative www.sharedwheels.co.uk was introduced in June 2006.

The launch of a car club is planned for January 2008.

All aspects of this measure are on target with learning seminars for local businesses being planned for Winter 2007.
(Expected) Results
Increase in the use of sustainable modes for journeys to and from businesses in the area.
